Snow reports with a person at the desk

The Snow Desk answers the question you have before you load the car: is the mountain open, how much of it, what is the weather going to do, what does a ticket cost today, and how far is it from your door. One page per ski area, the same shape every time, starting in the Southeast.

Where the numbers come from

  • Conditions come from each resort’s own snow report or its state ski association. Every report shows the source and the time we read it. When a resort does not state a figure, the page says “Not reported” rather than guessing.
  • The forecast is the National Weather Service forecast for the mountain itself, with the time the Weather Service issued it.
  • Tickets, passes, hours and season dates come from the resort’s own pages, each with the date we checked it. Prices change, and the resort’s own site is always the final word.
  • Drive times are road routes from each city’s center to the resort. Your trip will vary with traffic and mountain roads in snow.

The reports are read every morning. Opening dates, lift counts and anything a resort changes during the season change here the day the resort changes them.

On the desk now

12 ski areas in 4 states. More regions follow, one at a time, until every ski area in the country is here.

When we get something wrong

If a figure here does not match what the resort says, or a ski area you go to is missing, tell us on the contact page. We fix it from the resort’s own report, not from memory, and the page shows when it changed.
